County confirms it will install stop signs at deadly intersection

LANSING, Mich. (WLNS) — Ingham County Road Commission will install two additional stop signs at the intersection of Columbia Rd. and College Rd.

The move comes after a deadly crash over the weekend that took the life of a 27-year-old woman.

“We will be installing a second set of stop signs with reflective posts and signs that state ‘crossroad traffic does not stop’ on northbound and southbound College Road,” Kelly R. Jones, managing director of the Ingham County Road Commission tells 6 News in an email. “I expect this work to be completed by early next week, depending on when MissDig completes their utility staking.”

In addition to the signs, the Commission will be conducting a traffic study.

“We are collecting traffic data this week to determine if the intersection meets the minimum requirements for an all-way stop or a traffic signal,” Jones tells 6 News. “The analysis should be completed within the next couple weeks.  Additionally, the Road Department will be submitting a funding application for a safety grant to install a possible roundabout at this location, which would increase driver awareness by forcing traffic to slow down while navigating the geometry of the intersection.”

The intersection is located in Aurelius Township.
