Construction set to begin on Geisinger Medical Center road relocation project

May 21—DANVILLE — The first phase of Geisinger Medical Center's road relocation project will begin next month on Medical Center Drive in front of the hospital.

Work will begin June 3, weather permitting. The project will consist of multiple phases and is expected to be completed early next year, according to a press release.

The project will replace the one-way continuous loop in front of the hospital with a two-way street featuring separate drop-off loops for patients, public transportation and valet parking, according to the release.

"The reconfigured road will allow for a more efficient traffic pattern and is expected to reduce travel times in front of the medical center," the press release said.

The first phase of the project beginning in June will be limited to a valet parking area near Pleasant Street and the Pine Barn Inn parking areas. The phase will have minimal impact on traffic in front of the hospital.

The hospital's public entrances, including the Abigail (main) entrance and the Foss Clinic entrance, will remain open throughout most of the project. Though the hospital asked that visitors use alternate hospital entrances, such as the Hospital for Advanced Medicine, to alleviate traffic in the front of the hospital.
