Competitive bike race returns to Newport News in April

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (WAVY) — A competitive bike race is returning this year to Newport News from April 12-14.

Racers are set to compete for more than $15,000 in cash and prizes and the overall title of the Tour of Newport News champion.

Last year, the event saw more than 1,200 registrations. Here’s the breakdown for each day:

Friday, April 12: Located at Street Sprints on 23rd Street in the downtown Yard District from 6:30-9:30 p.m. This is an elimination style sprint, where riders line up five at a time and await a whistle to begin a short all-out sprint to the finish.

Saturday, April 13: At 8 a.m. with the Crawford Road Time Trial in Yorktown. This five-mile course includes rolling terrain and false flats that will have riders at their physical limits for 10-15 minutes of racing.

Sunday, April 14: The Fort Eustis Circuit Race. Featuring a flat and extremely fast 5K loop on the active-duty military installation, the event includes military specific, Wounded Warrior, and para-racer categories.
