City of New Orleans breaks ground on $11.7M project for housing units in Lower Ninth Ward
NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) — The City of New Orleans, in partnership with nonprofit SBP and NORA, celebrated the groundbreaking of a housing development in the Lower Ninth Ward on Wednesday, March 27.
City leaders said the $11.7 million affordable housing development, known as St. Claude Gardens II, will bring 39 new affordable housing units across 20 scattered lots throughout the Lower Ninth Ward beginning in June.

St. Claude Gardens II will be a 100% affordable housing development. All lots were acquired through a partnership with NORA. The project’s general contractor is Legacy Construction.
According to city leaders, phase III of St. Claude Gardens is in pre-development and is expected to bring an additional 66 units to the area. The project is targeted to start construction in 2025.
