Celebrating Henry Bill's 200th Birthday

May 18—LEDYARD — Ledyard Bill Library hosted founder Henry Bill's 200th birthday party Saturday. The party had activities, balloon animals and cake. Later in the morning there was a presentation on dressing as a Victorian lady.

Henry Bill grew up in what at the time was not yet Ledyard, but North Groton. Bill became a book publisher in Norwich and in 1867 donated funds and books for a library housed at the Congregational Church in Ledyard. Later a larger library was needed. Bill passed away in 1891 and his brothers continued the project and it was completed in 1893.
