Carrie Johnson’s best friend criticises ‘Sadiq Khan’s London’ after Met drops theft investigation

A high-profile feminist campaigner who is godmother to one of Boris and Carrie Johnson’s children has lambasted “Sadiq Khan’s London” after the Met Police dropped an investigation into a stolen item that had a tracker attached.

Nimco Ali, one of Carrie Johnson’s closest friends, called the force an “absolute joke” after being told that her report of theft had been closed.

Ms Ali, who would not confirm the details of the supposed theft, claimed she had located the alleged thief herself with an AirTag, an Apple-made tracking device, which was one of the items stolen, and that she had CCTV of the man who stole from her.

Despite claiming to have offered the address to officers, Ms Ali received a text from the police on Tuesday morning that said: “Unfortunately, no suspects have been identified and all lines of enquiry have been exhausted.”

Following the decision to drop her case, Ms Ali said that she was “not a fan” of how the force was run by the Mayor of London.

She said: “It’s something that is happening all the time with the Met. They didn’t even have a suspect. I’m going to speak to them.

“I’m not a fan of Sadiq Khan’s London.”

Posting a screenshot of the message she received from the force to Twitter, Ms Ali said:

A Metropolitan Police spokesman said: “We are aware of a post on social media about the closure of an investigation following an allegation of theft which was reported to police.

“This follows an incident where a set of Airpods were reported stolen from a shop in Regents Park Road, NW1 on the morning of 15 January.

“After reviewing the crime report, this case has been reopened and we will make contact with the victim to establish if there are further lines of enquiry that can be pursued.

“Anyone with information is asked to call 101 or ‘X’ @‌MetCC and quote CAD2120/15Jan.”

Ms Ali served advised Boris Johnson’s government on tackling violence against women and girls from 2020 to 2022.

She stayed with the Johnsons at Downing Street during the peak of the coronavirus lockdown in December 2020 to help look after their eldest son, Wilfred, who is her godson.

In 2021, she was pictured carrying Wilfred out of the gates of No 10 to meet his newborn sister, Romy, at the hospital.

In December 2022, three months after Mr Johnson’s resignation as prime minister, Ms Ali stepped down from her role, saying she did not want to serve under Suella Braverman, then the home secretary.

Ms Ali is also an author, podcast host and the chief executive of The Five Foundation, a London-based partnership that campaigns towards the elimination of female genital mutilation (FGM).

She was awarded an OBE in 2019 for her services to tackling FGM and gender inequality.
