Car stuck in water in East St. Louis, flash flooding concerns after overnight storms

EAST ST. LOUIS, Ill. – An overnight round of storms brings some flash flooding concerns to St. Louis region Monday morning. In East St. Louis, FOX 2 spotted at least one car stuck in water.

A FOX 2 photojournalist shared a photo from Monday morning of a car stuck on a flooded exit ramp. It appears the driver was attempting to exit onto Interstate 255 from State Street.

Illinois State Police and others have responded to the scene. First responders have not disclosed whether there were any injuries from this situation.

When heavy, intense rain falls on an area in a short amount of time, flash flooding can occur. This often prompts authorities to use the phrase “Turn Around. Don’t Drown.” Drivers should turn around and use an alternative route rather than risk driving through high waters with safety in mind.
