Candle-light vigil held for Wilkes-Barre stabbing victim

WILKES-BARRE, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — Honoring and remembering the life of a Luzerne County homicide victim.

A candlelight vigil was held in Wilkes-Barre in honor of 33-year-old Scott Knox who was stabbed to death earlier this week.

As the investigation into Knox’s death is still ongoing, those closest to him gathered in Wilkes-Barre to remember his life.

Family and friends shared memories, stories, and moments they shared with the man who was taken way too soon.

Outside Academy Street in Wilkes-Barre, friends and family raised lit candles and held a moment of silence for Scott Knox.

“Sadness. Total sadness. Broken heart. Again he was a great great guy,” said David Shotwell cousin of Scott.

The 33-year-old was stabbed to death multiple times in the 300 block of South River Street in Wilkes-Barre on Tuesday.

Those closest to him gathered on Friday night to honor and remember his life.

“I’m just at a loss for words. It’s tragic,” says Eric Knox Scott’s older brother.

Knox was a GAR Memorial High School and Luzerne County Community College graduate and later went on to become a licensed electrician.

“He was always a good kid. Give you the shirt off his back. You’d call someone to help you he’d be the first one to help you,” added Shotwell.

‘SK31″ and the words “We love you” were written on a wooden plaque by those at the vigil.

Eric and Scott’s other two brothers Shawn and Corey say 31 was his jersey number. Knox excelled in several sports at the high school and college levels including football, basketball, and baseball.

Scott leaves behind nine nieces and nephews another large part of his life.

“They loved him. They always asked where Uncle Scott is. They loved him,” stated Eric.

His family, now looking for answers into the death of their loved one and wishing for the violence to end in the city of Wilkes-Barre.

“Justice needs to be served,” continued Shotwell.

“It’s crazy. I used to grow up in Wilkes-Barre and this stuff needs to change,” says Eric.

His death is still under investigation.

Family, friends, and anyone who knew Scott is welcome to a visitation Saturday from noon to 2:00 p.m. at Mamary-Durkin Funeral and Cremation Services located at 59 Parrish St.
