Candidates file for legislative, county offices

Apr. 4—A race is setting up for the District 7 State Senate seat, which includes Pittsburg County.

Jerry Donathan, McAlester, is challenging current officeholder Warren Hamilton for the District 7 post. Hamilton filed for reelection as a Republican candidate, while Donathon filed as a Democrat.

Also, both incumbents who represent the McAlester area in the state House of Representatives have filed for reelection.

Jim Grego-R-Wilburton, filed for reelection to the District 17 State House post.

David Smith, R-McAlester, filed for reelection to the District 18 State House seat.

Meanwhile, another candidate filed Thursday for county elective office in Pittsburg County.

Don Chatman filed as a Republican candidate for the District 2 Pittsburg County commissioners' post, setting up a race with Make Haynes, who filed Wednesday, also as a Republican candidate, for the District 2 commissioner's seat left vacant when Kevin Smith recently retired from the office.

Other Pittsburg County offices for which two candidates have filed include the sheriff's office, along with the court clerk and county assessor's posts.

In the sheriff's race, Chris Morris faces a challenge from Randy Hass. Both are Republican candidates.

Tracy Brock is challenging Pam Smith for the Pittsburg County court clerk's office, with both filing as Republican candidates for the seat.

Interim Pittsburg County Assessor Cathey Ridenour and fellow candidate Richard Howry both filed as Democrat candidates for an unexpired term in the assessor's office.

Pittsburg County Clerk Hope Trammell, who filed for reelection as a Republican candidate, remained unopposed as of midday Thursday.

The three day candidate filing period extends through 5 p.m. on Friday, April 5.

Filings for state offices is with the State Election Board in Oklahoma City, while candidates for county offices file at the Pittsburg County Election Board Office at 7 E. Chickasaw Ave.
