Brush fires ignite along train tracks near Military Road, Sheridan Drive

BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — More than a dozen brush fires ignited along the train tracks near Military Road and Sheridan Drive early Thursday evening.

The fires spanned from the City of Buffalo, through the Town of Tonawanda, to the City of Tonawanda, Sheridan Park Fire Company’s Fire Chief Scott Plecha said.

Plecha told News 4 they received several reports of the wheels of a passing train sparking and igniting dry bush along the tracks.

“In my career, I haven’t had that many amount of fires at once at the same time,” he said.

Multiple companies responded to extinguish the flames.
