Bicyclist found dead along Encinitas roadway

ENCINITAS, Calif. (FOX 5/ KUSI)– A man was found dead along an Encinitas roadway Sunday, authorities said.

According to the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department, deputies responded to a call reporting that a bicyclist was down in the 2700 block of S. Coast Highway 101 shortly after midnight.

Upon their arrival, deputies found a 48-year-old man and a bicycle in the northbound bike lane area of the road. Paramedics attempted life saving measures but the man was pronounced dead at the scene, SDSO confirmed.

The man’s name is being withheld at this time pending notification of family. The San Diego County Medical Examiner’s Office will release those details at a later date. According to authorities, however, he’s believed to be a resident of Encinitas.

The cause of the accident remains under investigation. SDSO said it’s unknown at this time if alcohol or drugs was a factor in this incident. There was no apparent indication or evidence of a collision with a vehicle located at the scene, authorities explained further.
