Appleton takes its spin at hosting bowlers for the USBC open tournament

APPLETON, WI (WFRV) – Things are rolling along for the Wisconsin State USBC (United States Bowling Congress) 122nd Annual Wisconsin State Open Championship Bowling Tournament.

This weekend was especially festive with the competition coinciding with St. Patrick’s Day weekend in the Fox Valley.

Some of the bowlers dressed in kilts and shamrock skirts hoping to find their pot of gold.

Last year’s tournament in Madison had 1,910 teams with a prize list of $457,055.00.

It appears this year’s numbers will be even bigger.

“We are the largest tournament in the nation,” said Annette Zelinski, V.P. Greater Fox Cities USBC Bowling Association. “We have over 2,000 teams bowling this event. We started in the middle of January and we go until May 5th.”
