Gov. Kay Ivey has set a special election for Alabama House District 52 on June 18 to replace previous former state Rep. John Rogers.

“Alabamians in House District 52 deserve fair and full representation in the legislative process, and this special election will ensure that is the case. To uphold public trust, integrity is imperative and accountability is non-negotiable,” Ivey said in a statement. “I encourage everyone in this district to ensure they have a strong voice of representation in the Alabama Legislature by getting out and casting their vote during this special election.”

Rogers, D-Birmingham, resigned from House on March 13 after pleading guilty to felony charges.

If necessary, a runoff election would be July 16, and the special general election will be Oct. 1.

House District 52 includes parts of Jefferson County.
