Abilene ISD expects to save $36M in energy consumption as $29M project wraps up

ABILENE, Texas (KTAB/KRBC) – Abilene ISD is becoming more energy efficient and says it will save at least $36 million in the process, over the course of 20 years.

At Abilene ISD’s school board meeting Monday night, it was revealed that 12 facilities in the district has been going through modernizations.

These modernizations first began in 2019, and will soon come to a close.

Modernizations included replacing windows, lighting, doors, and HVAC units.

The project cost the district $28.8 million, and is said to create a 24.6% drop in energy consumption.

Schneider Electric, performing the modernizations, told the school board the project is nearing 100% complete.
