I-81 North open after truck overturned in Montgomery County

UPDATED: 10:09 A.M. MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Va. (WFXR) — For over two hours, I-81 North in Montgomery County shut down after a truck crashed, blocking all lanes.

First responders in Montgomery County were called to the scene. Pictures below show the Interstate covered in dirt and plants on the highway.

Fire officials confirmed no one was hurt during the crash.

The Virginia Department of Transportation says all lanes on the Interstate are now open.

UPDATED: 10:09 A.M. MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Va. (WFXR) — VDOT says traffic is being diverted off I-81 North to Exit 118.

Currently, traffic is backed up for about six miles.



UPDATED: 9:31 A.M. MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Va. (WFXR) — Drivers traveling on Interstate 81 North in Montgomery County can expect delays after a tractor-trailer flipped on its side Friday morning.

The Virginia Department of Transportation reports the crash occurred at mile marker 125.8, in the Ironto area. Currently, all northbound lanes on I-81 are closed, and traffic is at a standstill.

Traffic is backed up for almost four miles.

The Montgomery County Fire-EMS Department is currently on the scene along with state troopers.

The fire department says no one is injured and the interstate will be closed for a long period.

Drivers are encouraged to seek alternative routes until the crash is cleared.
