800+ remain without power after hailstorm, damaging winds slam Rock Hill

YORK COUNTY, S.C. (QUEEN CITY NEWS) — York County is working to set up a phone line for residents to report damage and request cleanup help as more than 800 remain without power after a strong storm system slammed the Rock Hill area this weekend, damaging several homes.

Rock Hill Outages

The City of Rock Hill reported Monday that just under 850 customers are still without power.

“Our power restoration efforts are bolstered with the help of electric crews from Newberry, Gaffney, Union, Clinton, York Electric, Northstar, Orangeburg, Bamberg, Laurens and Easley. We are appreciative of these fellow line workers who are helping us restore power,” officials said.

High winds felled trees, ripped siding off sheds, and destroyed a handful of homes.

Rock Hill Schools eLearning Tuesday

Rock Hill Schools announced on Monday they will have another eLearning day on Tuesday, April 23, following the destructive storms. Their facilities team took a full look at all their buildings, playgrounds, bus loops, and drop-off areas to ensure they were safe to use.

“At this time, the school district is not able to fully function for safe school operations tomorrow, Tuesday, April 23, and we will need to engage in a second day of eLearning. If you do not have power, are unable to access the internet, or do not have access to a device, your student will have five days after the last school cancellation to turn in assignments,” Rock Hill Schools said.
