1 dead, teen injured after shooting in St. Petersburg: Police
ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. - A 21-year-old man was killed, and a 17-year-old boy was injured after a shooting in St. Petersburg on Saturday afternoon, according to officials.
According to the St. Petersburg Police Department, they responded to the 100 block of 80th Ave NE around 1:18 p.m. after reports that a person was shot.
Officers say they found two victims with gunshot wounds. Marcus Rivers was found dead at the scene and his next of kin was notified, according to authorities.
Officials say the 17-year-old boy who was shot was taken to Orlando Health Bayfront St Petersburg hospital and is expected to survive.
So far no one has been arrested and police are still working to identify what led up to the shooting. However, investigators say they believe the victims are known to the suspects.
"It is a cause for concern. Obviously, the residents here would be concerned. But I want to reiterate this was not, at least this appears, was not a random act of violence. This does appear to be targeted," said Assistant Police Chief Antonio Gilliam.
Investigators could not confirm whether the suspects or the victims have any specific ties to the neighborhood where the shooting occurred. As of Saturday afternoon, police could not reveal a description of the suspects in question.
Police urge nearby residents with surveillance cameras to check their footage between 1 p.m. and 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, April 20, for anything suspicious.
