Watch Australians Taste Exotic Japanese Candies for the First Time

No matter what flavors of M&Ms and Starburst you’ll find in a trick-or-treat bag this Halloween, nothing will be as exotic as the wacky flavored candies and confectionaries available in Japan.

So it’s no surprise that a group of Australians admitted to being both “excited” and “freaked out” before embarking on a tasting of Japanese candy. BuzzFeed filmed the Aussies as they sampled several popular Asian treats and gave their feedback. It seems some Japanese candies are more internationally loved than others.

Among the favorites: the Koala’s March, a small, creme-filled chocolate cookie, was described as “kind of like an Oreo, but a lot softer,” said one. “It reminds me of tiramisu.”

A small, ribbed oval shape gummy called Nebaaru-Kun was visually unattractive. “Is that a suppository?” one asked.

The brain-shaped cartoon character on the package of a bag of Sour Plum Gummies “looks like a constipated brain.” It tasted worse than it looked. “It tastes like what B.O. smells like,” described one.

Plum-flavored kelp left others confused. “I don’t know if I’m having meat or seaweed or dry skin,” said one taster.

The unanimous crowd pleaser was the wasabi flavored Kit-Kat, which all of the testers loved. “This is my jam!” exclaimed one. “I can put away a few of those.”
