Swedish Fish-Lovers, Rejoice: IKEA Now Has a Candy Store

As if you needed another reason never to leave the forever-winding corridors and aisles of your local IKEA, the global discount furniture chain announced on Monday the American rollout of Lördagsgodis, an in-store candy shop featuring 45 varieties of Swedish sweets.

Don’t worry, we don’t know how to pronounce it, either. The word means “Saturday candy” in Swedish, a nod to the Scandinavian childhood tradition of splurging on candies once a week. But in keeping with the times, lördagsgodis is now observed every day of the week — a good or bad thing, depending on who you ask.

At any rate, the Lördagsgodis menu includes confections such as gummies, sour candies, marshmallows, chocolate, and licorice. Swedish fish are in the mix, too, and they’re pretty tasty — softer and more jelly-like than most other Swedish fish we’ve encountered — but the other offerings are fairly pedestrian. That said, a press release assures IKEA shoppers that they’re free of trans fats, high-fructose syrup, and GMOs. Scoops of the sweets cost $7.99 a pound.

The candies are currently available in nearly two dozen U.S. stories, including locations serving Los Angeles, Atlanta, Chicago, Miami, and Austin. All U.S. locations are expected to feature Lördagsgodis by the end of August.

Here’s a look at some of the other Lördagsgodis candies:
