Union MBC to celebrate Mother-Daughter Banquet

May 7—MOULTRIE — The Union Missionary Baptist Church will celebrate its annual Mother-Daughter Banquet at 6 p.m. Saturday, May 11.

The guest speaker will be Minister Zilphia Dorsett of the Friendship Baptist Church.

A native of Camilla, Dorsett moved to Miami-Dade County at an early age. She is the mother of two sons, four grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

She was employed as human resources director for Florida City, Florida, for 35 years. She earned a bachelor's degree in Christian education and a Master of Ministry in Christian counseling, both from Jacksonville Baptist Theological Seminary in Jacksonville, Fla. She was ordained at the same seminary.

She was a member of Greater William Chapel Freewill Baptist Church of Homestead, Fla., under the leadership of Bishop Willie Scott, where she was called and licensed to preach the gospel. She served as associate pastor, Bible study teacher, Sunday School superintendent, president of the Women's Ministry and leader of noon-day prayer. She served five years as police chaplain for the Florida City Police Department.

Following her retirement, she relocated to Moultrie in 2007 and joined Friendship Baptist Church under the leadership of the Rev. Alfred Jones. There, she's served as a member of Sunday School, taught Bible study and served as a member of the Women's Home Mission, leader of noon-day prayer, a Christian counselor and member of the ministerial staff. The church is now under the leadership of Pastor Tony Brown.
