Everyone seems to be getting tired of the incessant coverage of Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce, including the Kansas City Chiefs tight end himself. On the latest episode of his New Heights podcast, Travis revealed to his brother, Jason Kelce, that he felt the NFL has “overwhelmed” fans with their coverage of his relationship with the pop star.

After taking the sports world more or less hostage two weeks ago with her spirited appearance at a Chiefs game, last weekend the NFL made Swift the star of the show. Her song “Welcome to New York” played over an oft-repeated ad for the game, trailers for her new movie (out October 13, don’t forget) dominated commercial breaks, and cutaways to her and Kelce’s family in the stands rivaled the game itself for screen time.

Asked by Jason if he felt the NFL was “overdoing” their Swift tie-ins, Travis responded frankly: “I think everybody is just, like, overwhelmed.”

“I think it’s fun when they show who all is at the game,” Travis continued. “I think it brings a little bit more to the atmosphere, brings a little bit more to what you’re watching. But at the same time, they’re overdoing it a little bit, especially my situation.”

The brothers went on to discuss the NFL’s worship of celebrities in general. Last weekend, Blake Lively, Ryan Reynolds, and Hugh Jackman joined Swift at the Chiefs game against the Jets. Ultimately though, Travis said, celebrities “are not there to get thrown on TV.”

“I just think the NFL is not used to celebrities coming to the games,” Jason opined. “Basketball has it figured out. They’re all court-side, they’re sitting there. They show ’em once or twice, but then they get back to the game.

“The NFL is like, look at all these A-list celebrities at the game! Show them! Show them!”
