Support Louisville rescue animals with 2024 Kentucky Derby fashion event.

The 2024 Kentucky Derby is fast approaching, and the city of Louisville is in the Derby spirit with a variety of community events. Slated for Sunday, this 150 Derby-themed fashion show is unlike the rest, with an untraditional group of models and proceeds going to a good cause.

The 2024 "Rescues & Roses" event, put on by the NuLu Marketplace and The Dog Shop, will feature both two and four-legged models. Taking place from noon to 4 p.m. on April 28, 100% of event proceeds will go to the Animal Care Society, a no-kill animal shelter serving Louisville.

According to a news release from the Animal Care Society, attendees can "kick-off derby week with us at NuLu Marketplace where you’ll enjoy a Tito’s Vodka signature cocktail as you stroll through the marketplace of local merchants, bid on a couple silent auction items, then settle in to see ACS’s adoptable dogs walk the runway with models fashioning the latest from local boutiques and shops!"

The event is free to the public, but VIP tickets can be purchased for $50 each. VIP tickets include a drink ticket, exclusive seating, a swag bag and more.

The general public is also encouraged to participate in the "Derby Dog of the Year" contest. For a $25 donation, register your dog by uploading a photo and description and sharing on social media. Voting is $5 per vote. The top five dogs with the most votes will be invited to walk the runway, where one will win “Rescues and Roses Derby Dog of the Year."

The event will take place at NuLu Marketplace at the 800 block of East Market Street.
