Store dedicated to Hot Wheels opens Saturday in Topeka

TOPEKA (KSNT) – A new shop fostering a community of Hot Wheels enthusiasts is opening in the Capital City this weekend.

In 2019, Buck Shea created a club for diecast car fans called the Capital City Diecast Club. The group meets twice a month for a diecast swap meet, raffles and to race Hot Wheels and slot cars. Erik Slan, owner of the new Slanman Customs HQ, joined the group in February 2023.

Slan said his mother found his old Hot Wheels collection which prompted him to get back into the hobby with his son.

“I’ve been playing with Hot Wheels since I was a kid,” Slan said. “My mom found all my cars in 2019… I had an almost one-year-old at the time so me and him started playing with them.”

Slan will hold a grand opening Saturday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at 901 SW Fairlawn Road #121. The shop features racks with hundreds of Hot Wheels and diecast cars, Hot Wheels racetracks and custom 3D printing services.

“So, I mainly do my 3D printing,” Slan said. “This whole track here is 3D printed stuff that I print and make. I’ve been selling online for a couple of years and decided I wanted to build a big track.”
