Sonic Giving Popular Menu Item a 'Groovy' New Update

Sonic is reportedly spicing up a popular menu item this spring, and fans don't know what to do with the information.

The fast food chain's fries are said to be on the receiving end of a "groovy" update and everyone seems to have an opinion on it.

Known for its skin-on shoestring version of the fried Russet potato pieces, all of that is about to change according to information first shared by foodie influencer known online as Markie_Devo.

On Thursday, April 18, Markie_Devo revealed that Sonic plans to introduce crinkle-cut fries to its menu along with an entirely new dipping sauce, dubbed "Groovy Fries" and "Groovy Sauce."

The fries appear to be your run-of-the-mill, edgy, crinkle-cut potatoes, while the sauce is described as featuring "savory flavors of creamy ranch and herbs combined with the mild spice of sriracha."

The unveiling has customers feeling all sorts of emotions, from excitement to disappointment.

"Current situation: 🤤🤤🤤🤤🤤🤤❤️," one quipped.

"I’m Gonna Miss The Old Fries," another added.

"Kinda boring," a third replied. "I could do same with bags of frozen crinkle fries air fry."

"I think everyone just needs to chill with adding another ranch to a condiment and calling it a sauce 😂," someone else suggested.

Sonic's "groovy" menu items are the latest in a series of upgrades the restaurant chain has offered fans this year alone. Just a few weeks ago, it debuted the Blackout Slush Float in honor of the solar eclipse that mesmerized parts of the East Coast. The brand also collaborated with Oreo on a sweet new treat everyone "needs" to try.

The new version of fries–and the accompanying sauce–are said to launch sometime in May. So, those of you not so keen on Sonic switching to crinkle-cut fries still have a few weeks left with its original version.
