Shibu Inu Escapes Kennel in Cargo Hold of Plane During Cross Country Flight

Shiba Inus are often considered a very intelligent and smart breed of dog, but any Shiba Inu owner can tell you that along with this intelligence comes a huge helping of independence and strong-willed behavior. The sort of behavior that would cause a Shib to bust out of their kennel during a six hour cross-country flight.

Just watch the following video posted on September 5 to see the story.

The video, uploaded by TikTok user @Johnkrajewski, explains that his adorable Shiba Inu named Sputnik escaped her kennel mid-flight by chewing through the metal lock AND zip ties while she was on a full dose of sedatives. When the airplane door was opened, Sputnik just stood there at the top of the cargo landing bridge acting like she expected the airline to roll out the red carpet. John goes on to explain that with a six hour flight he has no idea how long she was actually out of her kennel, but that Sputnik is absolutely fine and is acting like nothing happened.

I wonder what she did when she escaped? Did this funny dog go looking for snackies? Were there other dogs on the plane cargo hold she visited?

If you plan on taking a trip with your own pup, you should first call the airline or check their website to see what their pet policies are. Each airline may have different rules regarding pet travel, including crate size, fees, and breed restrictions. You should try and get a direct flight if possible to avoid stress on your dog and minimize your travel time. Make sure your pup is up to date on vaccinations and carry proof of this, and make sure you label their crate with all of your information.

And if you have a clever dog like Sputnik, you may want to double lock the kennel door!
