Shelter Dog's Relief Over Receiving a Blanket Will Melt Anyone's Heart

Shelter dogs don't necessarily have an easy life while they wait for their forever homes, even if the staff is sweet and cares for them. However, while we may not be able to make it easier for them, we can all contribute to making shelter life a bit more comfortable.

"How?" You ask? Dog advocate Avery shows us in her video, posted on December 13, how much a simple gesture can make a difference. Just watch the look on this pup's face as she offers her a comfy blanket.

Aw, this poor girl! A nice blanket obviously makes living conditions in a shelter a little more feasible.

It's so important that shelter animals are comfortable. They're already going through so much distress.

Aside from making them feel comfortable, there are other ways you can help shelter dogs and cats.

How To Help Your Local Shelter Dogs

If you are unable to adopt a dog at the moment, there are still many ways to get involved that can help not only the shelters but especially the animals residing there.

One option, and the most obvious, is to volunteer at a local shelter, just like Avery does.

By doing this, you help take some stress off the shelter staff, as they are often overwhelmed. And this way, you can guarantee the animals will spend some quality time with a human. You can provide some company inside the kennel or take them out on a field trip. This can help with socialization and decrease their anxiety, as well as build their trust with humans.

Other options, aside from volunteering, are fostering a pup for some time if they're ready for adoption. Getting dogs out of the shelter and into a home, even if it's transitional, helps them relax and prepare for a loving forever home.

If you're tied to a busy schedule, donating food and supplies, as well as toys and blankets, just like Avery did, is also needed and always appreciated.

The holidays, in particular, are a busy time for the shelters, and they need all the help they can get.

Help Spread the Word About Shelter Animals

Another way to help shelter animals get adopted is through social media. By reposting adoptable candidates or campaigning and having fundraisers, you can do your part to help the right person see them!

This is particularly beneficial if you already have a large social media presence if you're an influencer.

No matter how you contribute, anything you can do to help or raise awareness can make such a dramatic difference in the lives of these wonderful animals.
