Moment Shelter Dog Finally Realizes She's Home Is Full of Beauty

As the owner of a formerly stray dog, I know firsthand just how special it is to watch a rescue pet thrive. From their very first tail wag to the first time they feel safe enough to fall asleep, the magic in the milestones is positively unmatched! Even though it will take time for a dog to learn that they aren't a shelter pet anymore, watching them get used to their environment can be oh-so-special.

Just ask this dog owner named Amy! She's no stranger to puppies and dogs, but she shared a very special moment with her TikTok followers on October 21 when she brought her new rescue dog home. Emery, the Labrador Retriever, took her time exploring her new home, but the ending of the video had me misty-eyed from knowing that she's safe and sound.

Welcome home, sweet girl! It's so heartwarming to watch this rescued Lab getting used to her new home, and this video shows that her owner, @amyf652, is going to give her as much time as she needs to do it. After all, patience is a virtue!

Emery was a rescue from Cabin Critters Rescue in Southern Ohio, but she'll soon realize that those days are behind her. There are so many more couch naps in her future, and she deserves every single one of them.

"Awww. Just remember the 3-3-3 guidelines for adjusting," encouraged one commenter. "Ours took a bit longer, but patience is so worth it!" You couldn't be more right! Emery seems to be adjusting to her new home easily considering how comfortable she was, but that's not going to be the case for all rescue dogs. My adopted boy had intense separation anxiety when he first came home, and we had to make a lot of adjustments in the first several months. After a while, though, he learned that he was home forever--and we learned what kinds of routines work for him!

I'm sure it will work out the same way for this yellow Lab and her new mom, too. They're off to a great start!
