Sandyvale to hold sold-out champagne breakfast, basket raffle fundraiser

Apr. 11—JOHNSTOWN, Pa. — Breakfast and baskets will highlight this upcoming fundraiser event.

Sandyvale Memorial Gardens and Conservancy will hold its champagne breakfast and basket raffle at 9:30 and 11:30 a.m. Sunday at The Boulevard Grill, 165 Southmont Blvd., Johnstown.

The event is sold out, but the public is invited to participate in the basket raffle from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

"We were approached by Dr. Richard and Suzanne Kastelic who wanted to donate some baskets to Sandyvale from Horizons Personal Care at Villa Crest, so we wanted to have an event around those baskets because there were so many of them," said Diana Kabo, president of Sandyvale Memorial Gardens and Conservancy.

"We never heard of anyone doing a champagne breakfast here in the area and we thought that would be different. It's the first time we're doing anything like this and we're sold out, so I think people are excited about it."

The basket raffle will feature close to 150 baskets — each valued at $100 or more.

"There is a wide variety of baskets," Kabo said. "There's cookware, jewelry, perfumes, wine and gift certificates to area restaurants."

There will be separate drawings on a 55-inch color TV and a 50/50 drawing.

Additional raffle tickets will be available for purchase at the event.

The drawings will take place at 1 p.m. and winners do not need to be present to win.

The breakfast buffet will include eggs, bacon, sausage, fries, waffles, fruit and a beverage. A complimentary mimosa and champagne flute will be given with each ticket.

"I think people will be very pleased with the event and enjoy themselves," Kabo said.

"We'll also have a guitarist at the event providing music, so it should be a pleasant and nice experience. If this goes well, we're thinking of maybe doing this every year."

Proceeds will benefit beautification projects at Sandyvale Memorial Gardens and Conservancy.

"Every year, after the winter, we have to replace plants that have frozen out, and we're constantly working to improve the site," Kabo said.

"We're working right now renovating a building that was donated to us, so we'll have funds to help with that and it'll be one of the projects for this year."

Event sponsors are Horizons Personal Care at Villa Crest, Dave and Carol Klavuhn, The Tax Lady LLC, The Boulevard Grill and Market Basket.
