Rain gear has come a long way since the days of heavy rubber coats. Materials like Gore-Tex and Columbia's Omni-Tech make some of the best jackets even more lightweight, breathable, and waterproof. And while some of them can be pricey, deals on these water-shedding rain jackets can be found if you know where to look. Marmot jackets offer an affordable solution to staying dry without weighing you or your wallet down, and one of the brand's most popular styles just went on sale.

Right now, the already modestly-priced Marmot PreCip Eco Jacket is on sale at REI for just $75—a 25% discount on the normal $100 price. The jacket is available in a range of two-tone colorways, as well as an eye-catching shade of orange. It's earned over 250 five-star ratings at REI from shoppers who use it for everything from commuting to hiking. Sizes run from small to 2XL, but some are already starting to sell out.

The PreCip jacket features Marmot’s NanoPro ripstop nylon fabric that is waterproof and breathable. It's built with seam-taped edges to help prevent leaks alongside an adjustable hemline drawcord and Velcro cuffs that can both be fastened for extra warmth. The placket has a zipper and Velcro, allowing you to leave the jacket partially opened if desired. There are also zippers under the pits—a key feature that lets air and moisture escape without compromising water resistance. When not in use, it can be packed into a compact pouch, so you can easily toss it in your daypack or travel bag as a backup layer.

Shoppers love the PreCip jacket's waterproof performance, with one recounting that they wore it “during a torrential rainstorm, and it kept me dry the whole time.” Another wrote, “I wear my gear year-round and know it will take a beating,” adding, “This jacket outlasted others, by far, and always keeps me dry.”

Other shoppers say it holds up well in varied climates. “Took it paddling on Florida's Weeki Wachee spring river in heavy rain,” a shopper said. “I stayed dry for a couple of hours of rain paddling.” Another wrote, “I have lived in the Pacific Northwest and I work on the Olympic Peninsula where it rains a lot. I know rain gear, and this is a solid coat.”

Some even compared this Marmot jacket favorably to other brands. “I tried the Outdoor Research Helium and found it too flimsy," a shopper admitted. "The REI Gore-Tex was too stiff and heavy. [But] the PreCip is the perfect medium and comes with tons of good features.”

With its lightweight construction, handy features, and packable design, Marmot’s PreCip Eco Jacket offers great value at $75, but sizes are starting to sell out. If you've been looking for a waterproof jacket that's tough enough to handle the outdoors but nice enough to wear to work, pick one of these up in your size before they're gone.
