Mountain Biker Has Close Call With Rattlesnake In San Diego

Rattlesnakes are a common sight for riders in some areas. The open mountain bike trail can be an attractive place for the cold-blooded animals to sun themselves.

This can lead to close calls with mountain bikers. Watch one rider explain a close encounter below.

In this video, Manny explained he was riding when he encountered a snake on the trail. Trying to stop and bail, Manny fell off the back and his tire ran over the snake, but thankfully did not seem to harm it. He filmed the video after the fact.

In general, snakes do not like to strike humans and only do so when they feel threatened. Unfortunately, bikes come quickly and the animals often feel like they have no choice but to defend themselves. Thankfully, this one was not angry after the brief misunderstanding.

Manny handled this encounter more calmly than I or many other riders would. Watch one rider decide to take a different trail after one encounter below.
