McDonald's is creating a new McFlurry inspired by grandmas. Here's what is in it

The new McDonald's McFlurry being unveiled next week was inspired by someone you know very well - your grandmother.

The McFlurry is a famous, sweet drink from the Golden Arches that has been around for quite a while now, but this is the first time one of them has been inspired by a grandparent.

When the McFlurry was first introduced to the public in 1997, the flavors included Oreo, Heath, Nestle Crunch, M&M’s and Butterfinger. Since then, they have occasionally introduced other flavors.

Here's what you need to know about the new flavor.

What is the Grandma McFlurry?

According to McDonald's, the new Grandma McFlurry tastes like hard candies and syrup. It's supposed to taste like the wrapped hard candy pieces you always got from your grandmother when you were young.

In a release, McDonald's stated that the new drink "features a delicious syrup and chopped, crunchy candy pieces (like grandma's favorite treat that she hid in her purse) - all blended in our creamy vanilla soft serve."

Grandma McFlurry will only be available at McDonald's locations nationwide for a limited time and while supplies last.

Why did McDonald's create the new treat?

The chain restaurant stated that the purpose of the new McFlurry is to "celebrate and recreate memories with grandma." The famous chain restaurant has said the new McFlurry was actually created by a grandmother.

"Grandmas have always held a special place in our hearts, and today they're having a major moment influencing culture – inspiring trends in fashion, decor and now, even food with our newest McFlurry," Tariq Hassan, Chief Marketing and Customer Experience Officer at McDonald's, stated in a release this week. "The Grandma McFlurry tastes like a trip down memory lane, and we're excited to give our fans that experience while honoring the grandma-figure in all our lives."

When will the new Grandma McFlurry be available?

McDonald's stated in a release that the new drink will be available as of Tuesday, May 21, and will only be available "for a limited time."
