Maple syrup festival happening all weekend

LANSING, Mich. (WLNS) — On this last weekend in April, it’s time for “the ‘granddaddy’ of them all”–the annual Vermontville Maple Syrup Festival.

It all starts this Friday, April 26, at 5 p.m., and goes on through Saturday and Sunday.

Festival organizers say it’s the original maple syrup festival in Michigan, originating in 1940 when local syrup makers gathered in a barber shop to discuss a new way to sell the syrup.

Throughout the village of Vermontville, local syrup producers will be in position to sell sell syrup, candies, cream and even maple syrup cotton candy.

The festival will also feature carnival rides, a talent show, arts and crafts, a flea market, two parades, a petting zoo, a princess pageant, informational displays, games, free entertainment, a pancake derby, arm wrestling and more.

Of course, you’ll be able to enjoy pancakes with real maple syrup, brought to you by the Maple Valley Band Boosters and the American Legion.

You can see the festival schedule for Friday, Saturday and Sunday here.
