As a perpetually cold person, few things in life give me greater joy than stepping into a warm bath towel right out of the shower, or a toasty bathrobe on a chilly morning — both of which are hard to come by in my drafty New York City apartment. That is, until the Zadro towel warmer came into my life.

Let’s be clear, no one actually needs a towel warmer, but that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t have one. In fact, just two weeks into owning the Zadro, I’d argue that everyone should have one, especially moms who need a little pampering or that impossible-to-please friend who has everything — and people who are always cold, like me.

How I found the Zadro towel warmer

My aforementioned perpetual coldness is well known by anyone who has spent considerable time with me, and this was a gift from a friend. A wonderful gift from a wonderful and very generous friend that I will cherish forever. She knows I love my self-care rituals and this is truly something I’m adding to my daily routine, because once you experience a toasty towel on a cold day, it’s hard to go back. I’m already planning on buying one for my mom and my sister as these really do make the perfect gift.

How it works

Towel warmers usually come in two types of designs — a rack and a canister. Though I can’t speak to any specific towel warming rack, this version is widely appealing due to how easy it is to set up. Just plug it in, fold in whatever garments you want heated (pro tip: it also works great for throw blankets and socks) and set the timer. No need to bother with screwing anything into the wall and face being evicted if you’re like me and you live in a rented apartment. With the canister, you can move it to any room you like or put it away when not in use.

The Zadro features an automatic shut off mechanism which is a nice touch compared to competitors. It also offers four different time settings in 15 minute increments up to an hour — I found that just 15 minutes did the trick. Even when I wasn’t using it for its intended purpose, it’s aesthetically pleasing enough that I didn’t feel like I had to put it away every time — plus I use it to store towels.

In addition to being chilly, my NYC apartment is also tiny, so I didn’t think I’d have room for the Zadro in my bathroom. But even the large was the perfect size (though the brand also sells a countertop model), and at 21 inches tall and 20 liters capacity, it easily holds three or four towels at a time, more than enough for little old me but plenty for a bigger family. Not only that, but the Zadro can also be used to quickly dry damp towels after use so you can avoid that musty smell and bacteria that tends to thrive on wet clothes, especially after a day at the beach or swimming pool.

Bottom line

At $120, the Zadro towel warmer is not cheap, but you can’t put a price on happiness so consider this money well spent on yourself, or anyone who loves a touch of luxury in their life. I would file this under the practical gift for that person who has everything or is extremely difficult to shop for. Or someone who is always cold. Like me.
