Recently, I attended one of my closest friend's 40th birthday party and my rapidly advancing age became evident when the star of the conversation was the oversized lunch box I recently purchased from Target. After singing its praises for several minutes, one of my friends grabbed her glasses (this is 40) so she could take a look at it on my phone, then promptly ordered one for herself.

As a mom nearing her prime (also known as 40), lunch boxes are kind of a big deal. Especially ones like the new Figmint Eight Compartment Bento Box from Target. Not only is it a steal at only $10, but it can hold enough to easily satisfy a very hungry family.

In the past, I’ve spent almost 30 dollars on one small bento box, so I was a bit skeptical about this bargain find. However, I’m happy to report this oversized option is one of the nicest my family has ever used. The plastic is quite sturdy, and the lid is easy to get on and stays in place; something I can’t say about other bento boxes we’ve tried.

What I love most about this gigantic snack box is its ability to pacify my two boys. They will fight about anything; whose turn it is to open the garage, who gets to pick the songs in the car, who gets what water bottle, and everything in between.

I hope (and pray) this is just a phase, but this cleverly divided bento keeps meal times on the go from turning into all-out brawls. Although we have dozens of snack boxes, none of them are exactly the same size and shape. This leads to lots of whining about who got more of which snack, but this cleverly designed option is perfectly symmetrical, giving me the ability to dole out fruit, veggies, and treats equally.

During the spring season, I am constantly on the go with my family. We are often forced to eat picnic-style at the soccer or baseball field and I have to pack multiple lunch boxes and snack containers to schlep with me. Now I can just bring one container which makes packing, eating, and cleaning up easier.

We don’t have any air travel soon, but this would be amazing on a long flight. It has plenty of compartments to keep little hands busy without the need for overpriced airport snacks.

As soon as my first Figmint bento box arrived, I promptly ordered another. What I’m looking forward to most is filling them with adult snacks (think charcuterie, fruit, chocolate, and mezze dips) for even more 40th birthday celebrations over the summer at the beach, at Tanglewood, or really anywhere I don’t have to dole out snacks to my kids. It’s the little things!
