LIM College Puts a New Spin on the End-of-Year Fashion School Show
LIM College's annual graduating student runway show operates a little differently than most end-of-year fashion school productions.
Because it's a business school, students weren't responsible for the clothes seen at "Fashion Unleashed: Embracing the Elements," held in New York City on Friday night (with a few exceptions). Rather, their main responsibilities were the nitty-gritty of putting on an event of that scale, from planning to styling to marketing to casting the models to designing the set to calling in looks from emerging New York talent (like Karl Kani, Carlon Jones, Adrienne Landau, Pedro Juan and Terry Singh) that aligned with the theme.
"Even though LIM is a business school and we're really focused on the business of fashion, not so much design — though we do have some designers at our school that are really amazing — we're looking to help uplift other smaller designers and give them a platform, while also giving ourselves the platform to show how the business of fashion works," Styling Director Alexis Berteau told Fashionista.
The night began with speeches from Provost Dr. Scott Carnz, Fashinnovation Co-Founder Jordana Guimarães, Fashion Show Director Savannah Cihi and Natasha Verma, founder of the Verma Foundation, which provides free wig caps to patients with cancer-related hair loss. (A former patient walked the runway alongside the students.) Then came the fashion, which Berteau explained was "inspired by earth, water, wind and fire."
