A new season of Ina Garten's show, "Be My Guest With Ina Garten," premiered on Sunday, and Jennifer Garner was the ideal first guest. Like so many of us, she is a big-time fangirl of Ina Garten. I’ve been a dedicated student of Ina for over 20 years, and Jennifer’s enthusiasm echoed my own. It was a joy to watch them as they chatted and cooked side by side, both listening and learning from each other.

During the episode, Ina and Jennifer made pizza, and it was a true collaboration. Ina made the dough ahead of time and prepped the toppings. Jennifer stepped in to show how she puts together her super simple, three-ingredient pizza sauce. I was tickled to find that it’s the same homemade sauce I make for pizza night

To make pizza sauce, Jennifer adds a can of whole tomatoes to a blender with a couple of glugs of extra-virgin olive oil and a big pinch of salt. She puts the lid on the jar, blends it all to combine, and it’s good to go.

She gives credit to the idea behind the sauce to pizza chef Daniele Uditi, who she refers to as "the pizza guy in LA.”

While Chef Uditi crushes the canned tomatoes by hand, Jennifer modified it for her life at home with the blender technique. It’s the perfect example of taking a chef's methodology and making it work for your home kitchen.

I was particularly tickled when Jennifer shared her pizza sauce recipe because it’s the same one I use at home with one small tweak—I add a clove of fresh garlic as well. And I go one step further by simplifying the blending process and reaching for an immersion blender. Skipping the blender for me means one less wonky dish I have to worry about washing, especially on pizza night. There are already enough things going on!

Jennifer jokingly calls this easy sauce recipe “cheating,” but I think it’s exactly the sort of recipe that has endeared Ina to us all from the beginning. Start with “good” ingredients, don’t fuss with them too much, and dinner’s done before you know it. How easy is that?

I'll be back each week with something fun to share with you after watching a new episode of “Be My Guest.” I'm excited to see what Ina and her guests have in store for us.
