Internet Conflicted Over Oscar Mayer's Hot Dog Straw
We've seen our fair share of surprising novelty products created by beloved food brands—from McDonald's holiday-themed toys to Dunkin' Spiked beverages—but Oscar Mayer perhaps takes the prize for its most questionable item, sparking divisive reactions across the internet.
The wiener brand is inviting fans to purchase a Hot Dog Straw, inspired by the 2022 viral video captured by account New York Nico. In the clip, a baseball fan at Yankees Stadium created a real hot dog straw by pushing a blue plastic straw through a hot dog, then sipping his beer with it.
For an ad, Oscar Mayer recreated the viral moment with its own drinking device, featuring the same man from the original video. It was then re-shared by food influencer Markie Devo on Instagram.
Under Devo's post, many shared their reactions to the innovation.
"Genuinely don't know how to feel 😅," someone admitted.
"This is outrageous!" a commenter exclaimed. Another person in the comments proudly announced they purchased it, writing, "Mine is pre ordered."
Other commenters shared that they tried their luck at getting the straw, but unfortunately it was "out of stock for the day."
Those who are concerned about Oscar Mayer making a Hot Dog Straw shouldn't worry. As Devo noted in his caption, the item "mirrors the same size and color of a cooked dog, and is made using food safe soft silicone to replicate the feel of a real Oscar Mayer hot dog."
