I'm a shopping editor, and this snap-on strainer changed my kitchen life — it's $10 (over 40% off) ahead of Amazon's Big Spring Sale

No more losing precious penne or slippery spaghetti, thanks to the genius Snap N' Strain.

When you're short on storage in your kitchen, you become really good at finding the most space-saving possible versions of everything. For example, my dish rack goes over my sink, my oven doubles as storage for my pots and pans and my colander clips onto my skillet. Wait, what? Yes, you read that correctly. No longer do I have to try cramming a bulky strainer into my cabinets, thanks to a genius, compact invention called the Snap N' Strain. And as if that weren't enough, this top seller is currently marked down for as low as $10 (down from $18) ahead of Amazon's Big Spring Sale.

(Want even more savings? Here's our guide to the Amazon Big Spring Sale.)

It lets the water out and keeps your food in! No wonder over 25,000 Amazon shoppers have given it a perfect five-star rating.

Why is it a good deal?

Aside from mega sales holidays like Prime Day and Black Friday, this strainer rarely dips down to a price this low — it's over 40% off! Plus, you can use it on just about any pot or pan, so you'll never need to buy multiple versions. The orange color is currently the cheapest, though the other four hues are also on sale, none for more than $13.

Why do I need this?

The Snap N' Strain is made entirely of silicone, which means it can fit virtually any round bowl, pot or pan — even the lipped kind. Just clip it onto two sides and pour out the extra water, grease, oil or sauce.

Storage is where this strainer really shines, though: It's approximately a quarter of the size of the average colander, and it's totally flexible (unlike traditional metal or plastic ones). You can even fit it in your cutlery drawer. It's so compact that it leaves practically no footprint in your kitchen: I keep mine behind my sink and pull it out whenever I'm boiling pasta.

What reviewers say

Shoppers absolutely love this wondrous gizmo: Over 12,000 of them have given it a perfect five-star rating.

"This is a better invention than the Pet Rock!" one ’70s aficionado exclaimed. "My first use of it was draining fat from beef from a 12-inch pan, and it was so much easier than using the lid or losing burger [meat] through the holes of a strainer. ... The natural curve of the strainer adjusted easily to the pan shape. Would repurchase 100 times!"

Another shared: "It works over every pot and pan in our kitchen, and it works well. No more accidentally dumping out your hard-earned meal because your lid slips as you try to drain the pan. Great kitchen device!"

Here's a succinct take: "Really unique concept! Many times I needed three hands to drain spaghetti or other foods in a large pot. With this strainer, I just snap it on the pot and use my remaining two hands to direct the pot. Best invention ever!"

"How did I live without this for so many years? I love it!" gushed a final fan. "It makes draining pasta so much easier. I haven't had any problems with it not fitting my pots. It is also great for draining fat from cooked meat." They also have some advice: "Because the strainer is not very large, the one tip I have is to drain slowly so that the food doesn't fall out of the pot. That being said, I haven't had any issues with draining two pounds of cooked fettuccine."

Prefer neutrals? Don't worry, it also comes in this more subdued gray.

Need a new pot to clip your strainer to? GreenPan is an Oprah-approved cookware brand, and their 5-quart stock pot comes highly rated:

This pot has a ceramic nonstick coating free of PFAS, PFOA, lead and cadmium, and is oven- and broiler-safe up to a whopping 600°F! It also comes with a glass lid so you can keep an eye on your food as it cooks.

"We now have a number of GreenPans. They are excellent," raved a reviewer. "The durability means coating does not flake off into food. We are hard on our cookware and have used Calphalon, Cuisinart and All-Clad. Will buy GreenPan from now on. This particular one is a perfect middle size when a covered sauté pan is too short and the actual stock pot is too tall."
