Paris Fashion Week has been full of surprising twists and turns — especially along the front rows. From Nicki Minaj and her peekaboo boob to Zayn Malik’s buzzy new haircut, there have been repeated occasions that have seriously made us all gasp.

Putting more of a focus back on the actual models, lead stylist and Bumble and bumble global artistic director Laurent Philippon made sure their presence commanded all the attention at the Manish Arora show by creating exaggerated hair turbans to top off the eccentric fashion looks each of them wore.

With such elaborate headdresses, we couldn’t help but wonder how Philippon created them. To satisfy curious minds, a couple of videos were shared on Instagram to break it down for all of us at home.

According to a video posted by Bumble and bumble on Instagram, the hair turbans are mats made of actual hair that has been precisely layered and crisscrossed, then sealed with a shellac and placed on each model’s head.

Philippon shared a second video that revealed an even more behind-the-scenes look at how the turbans came together. After the acrylic-painted mats set and dried, tape was placed around the hairline of each model, and the crisscross-hair mats were then wrapped around each model’s head. From there, the mats were gently pinched and scrunched down into a turban style and stapled together at the back. Underneath, each model’s hair was gathered in a bun or tucked ponytail.

Spiked hairs were left out and uncut from the edges of the head wrap around the face. Makeup artist Kabuki for MAC cosmetics also placed medium-sized pearls around the eyes in a heart shape and smaller ones down the center of the forehead.

Keeping in line with the “cosmic love” theme of the show, all of the bold elements, including Philippon’s headdresses, made an unforgettable statement and had people buzzing.
