It’s Free Cone Day at Ben & Jerry’s: How to get your free scoop

(WPHL) – I scream, you scream, we all scream for ice cream — especially when it’s free.

Ben & Jerry’s is celebrating its annual “Free Cone Day” on April 16, with hopes to give out over 1 million scoops at shops across the globe.

What is Free Cone Day?

Ben & Jerry’s celebrated its first-ever Free Cone Day in 1979, at its then-only shop in Burlington, Vermont. The tradition remained when Ben & Jerry’s expanded throughout the state and beyond, though the date had changed several times. In 2015, the company estimated that over 1,000,000 scoops had been distributed annually on Free Cone Day — a record it hopes to continue.

“We’re asking our fans to really bring it this year: invite their friends, family, and neighbors, and help us beat our goal of 1 million scoops on Free Cone Day 2024,” Dave Stever, Ben & Jerry’s CEO, said of the 2024 event.

How many scoops can you get?

Unlike free giveaways that limit customers to one-per-person, Ben & Jerry’s explicitly urges guests to try multiple flavors.

“Fans are encouraged to get back in line as many times as they’d like. Experienced fans understand it’s easiest to jump back in the queue on Free Cone Day with a scoop already in hand,” the company said in a press release.
