Folks are raving about MS Coast restaurant’s specialty tacos. Are they really that good?

I have just returned from vacation. On that vacation I attended a Braves game in Atlanta, where I enjoyed a two-foot long carton of nachos roughly the size of Ronald Acuna Jr.’s bat.

And they ran my pockets for that to the tune of $25. Who would have thought, just days later, I would dig into a plate of nachos that cleared the Truist Park Grand Slam by miles for half the price.

I had them back on the Mississippi Coast at Rosita’s in Ocean Springs. Sitting on 6819 Washington Avenue, Rosita’s is a family-owned taco shop that has been serving South Mississippi for about a year and a half now.

Rosita’s serves a small menu of birria tacos and complements them with rotating specials and desserts from O’Pink’s Sweets Treats & More.

The shop has a near-perfect 4.8 stars over 260 Facebook reviews and a 4.7 rating on Google.

So what’s the big deal? The meal at Rosita’s may be small, but is versatile and not limited in any way. Along with the “dipping” tacos, there are nachos, quesadillas, ramen and traditional Mexican snacks like elotes and fruit cups dressed in tajin and chamoy. If none of that draws you in, they also sell cheesecake fruit tacos.

Rosita’s offers a weekly array of specials that are advertised on their Facebook page. This week they’ll be serving shrimp ceviche and shrimp tacos.

I had the quesatacos, three birria tacos made for dipping in a consomme sauce. They were served with cilantro, onions and lime and came double-wrapped with corn tortillas.

They were devoured on the restaurants outdoor patio, where a couple of fans kept the shaded area cool and comfortable.

What followed were the chicken nachos. This, to me, was the most enjoyable part of my journey. Loaded onto the chips were jalapenos, green peppers, diced tomatoes, onions, shredded chicken, white cheese sauce and Hot Cheetos.

Yes, Hot Cheetos. Thanks, Rosita’s, for setting myself up for disappointment every time I get nachos somewhere else now and they don’t come with Hot Cheetos.

This was all washed down with watermelon aguas frescas, the perfect refresher for a warm afternoon. Rosita’s proudly serves its California-style birria-meat menu on the Coast and has rightfully gained its own fan base for it.

With the days heating up, Rosita’s will have the perfect blend of southwestern cuisine and desserts for the summer months. Those desserts include homemade banana pudding, red velvet butter pecan cheesecake cupcakes and biscoff churro cheesecakes.

Convinced?
