Some Kansas City Chiefs fans are a little worried about Patrick Mahomes after catching a new glimpse of his offseason body transformation.

The star quarterback addressed claims earlier this year that he had developed a “dad bod” after one shirtless photo went viral in January. The father of two has embraced the description in the past, and he continued joking about it during a press conference on Wednesday, May 22.

Before Mahomes, 28, spoke with reporters, the Chiefs’ official account on X, formerly Twitter, shared a short video showing the quarterback arriving for OTAs, or organized team practice activities, as the team starts looking ahead to its 2024 season. Several fans teased Mahomes for his appearance in the video, with many reviving the “dad bod” descriptor from months ago.

“What is this build ,” one person wondered as another claimed the video showed a “Dad bod in full flow.”

“Got that offseason build ,” another fan bemoaned, adding, “My boy was in Texas eating good!”

Others on X defended the quarterback and cheered for him to continue embracing the “dad bod” look.

“Rocking the dad bod! Own it Patrick! Love it!” one person wrote.

“Look up his workouts with the trainer,” another person urged their fellow X users. "You will see his strength and why he can make some of the moves he does. An initial glance means nothing.”

“Mahomes still has his dad bod. I love it,” journalist Austin Eckert wrote. “The man has won 75% of the Super Bowls that this organization has won in its history,” Eckert continued, adding that Mahomes “can do whatever he wants.”

During a recent interview with Time, Mahomes addressed the image of himself that went viral in January. “I definitely have the dad bod a little bit,” he told the magazine before adding that it was helpful for him to “have some padding in there to take the hits” as a quarterback. Even so, Mahomes said he intended to shed his “dad bod” so that he could have the kind of lengthy professional athlete career that Tom Brady had.

Mahomes also referenced his appearance on May 22 while answering a question about his investment in Throne Sport Coffee, a beverage that Mahomes previously described as providing “great tasting coffee without the unnecessary calories or sugar crash.”

Mahomes explained to reporters that he is a frequent coffee drinker and doesn’t typically put sugar or other additives into it. “I wanted to find a healthier version so I can help my body, not have that dad bod,” Mahomes said. The comment drew laughter from the reporters as Mahomes flashed a small smile.
