Emperor Penguin’s Unsettling Behavior at Aquarium Is Nothing Short of Heartbreaking

There is a lot of controversy surrounding zoos and aquariums all around the world, and for good reason. While the attempt to conserve certain animals is good-hearted, the outcome and conditions have proven to often be questionable.

The news channel @yahooaustralia reported on November 26 of such proof about an emperor penguin that demonstrates strange and unusual behavior, leaving visitors shocked and experts concerned. Let's check it out!

This is so sad!

It's obvious that this emperor penguin is in distress.

Emperor penguins are known for their interesting behavior, including some behaviors that might seem peculiar to us.

However, according to experts, for an emperor penguin to plunge its head into snow for a few minutes is unusual to witness in the wild and is an indicator that this penguin is clearly in distress and not having a great time at this Chinese zoo.

Understandable!

In many zoos and aquariums, animals are cooped up, live in small spaces, and can experience distress and signs of depression.

Other signs of distress can be isolation and avoidance. If a penguin is isolating itself from others or consistently avoiding certain areas of its enclosure, it could indicate social or environmental issues.

Another sign of distress could be abnormal posture or lethargy; if a penguin is consistently adopting abnormal postures or appears lethargic, it may be a sign of illness or discomfort.

Plunging its head into snow could be a combination of abnormal posture as well as avoidance.

The TikTok community also raised concern, and many said that zoos and aquariums should be abolished.

Indeed.

However, we hope this little fella will recover soon.
