Debate Over Whether Chinese Sun Bears Are Humans in Costumes Sparks Outrage

A clip coming from a Chinese zoo is causing quite a stir, as many people believe this bear looks suspiciously human. The video, shared by the Australian news TikTok account @news.com.au, shows the bear waving at the crowd in a very human-like manner. The zoo has since responded with a statement denying that this Sun Bear is human.
But whether or not the bear is a human dressed in costume is not what most people are concerned about. It's as if these waves from the bear are an outcry for help.

It's hard to deny that this bear looks like a human. Just look at those waves and the way the bear is standing. But even experts are weighing in and saying that this, in fact, is a bear. "Sun Bears could be very human-like," Wildlife Biologist Wong Siew Te told NBC News. "They stand like humans and walk like humans." Plus, in the scorching temperatures, a person dressed in a fur suit wouldn't last more than a few minutes.
The comment section of the video is flooded with viewers saying this is exactly what a Sun Bear looks like. The reason why people might've mistaken this creature for a human is due to the fact that Sun Bears are the smallest of all bear species. Adult males typically weigh between 60 and 110 pounds. In comparison, adult male Black Bears can weigh 200 to 255 pounds.
What most people are worried about now is the fact that this bear looks like it needs help. Even animal rights group PETA chimed in on the video, stating this incident shows how all zoo animals should be moved to sanctuaries or wildlife reserves to live freely in their natural environment.
