11-Year-Old Cat’s Sad Face After Being Surrendered Is Beyond Disheartening

It's always heartbreaking to see animals, especially senior ones, experiencing sadness or distress due to being surrendered, as it is also a lot harder for senior pets to find forever homes.

The San Bernardino rescue organization @devoresheltercats in Southern California shared a video on October 28 of two senior cats, named Orangey and Sage, that were surrendered and are up for adoption. Let's find out more!

Cats, just like dogs, can express their emotions through their facial expressions and can indeed exhibit signs of sadness, stress, or confusion when their environment changes suddenly.

Look at him! He's curled up into a ball, and he looks so sad!

The transition from a familiar home to an animal shelter or a new environment can be challenging for older cats, as they are more accustomed to their routines and the comfort of a familiar space. The stress of separation and adjusting to a new setting can impact their emotional state, leading to visible signs of distress, such as a sad or anxious facial expression.

Aw, poor Orangey and poor Sage.

When senior cats are surrendered, it's crucial for shelters to provide them with extra care, attention, and a comfortable environment to ease their transition. Staff and volunteers often work to create a comforting atmosphere, offering love, support, and the necessary resources to help these cats adapt to their new surroundings.

As mentioned, both cats are up for adoption.

Orangey (#A787800) is an 11-year-old male, neutered, and Sage (#A787801) is a 14-year-old; both were surrendered together by their owner due to moving.

So if you live in Southern California and are looking to adopt a cat, maybe Orangey and Sage will be a good fit. Senior pets make excellent companions and are usually more low-key than younger pets.
