DMV-based baby gear rental company helps save on early parenthood

WASHINGTON (DC News Now) — Two women in the DMV are on a mission to make early parenthood a little easier, more sustainable and more affordable.

“We’re really focused on helping DMV families save money, save time involved with researching all this stuff and safe space in their home,” said Ali Cavasino.

Cavasino and Natalie Poston are the creators of the baby gear rental company JoyLet, which gives parents and caregivers access to popular baby products at a fraction of the price.

“At JoyLet we rent out bassinets, bouncers, swings, strollers, specialty strollers, big developmental toys like Montessori climbing arches and triangles,” said Cavasino.

Along with saving money, Cavasino and Poston say renting baby gear is a great option because not every baby likes the same things. They say kids go through developmental phases every three to six months, which is quicker than you may realize.

“People are like… it’s great when the gear comes, and it’s even better when you come pick it up,” said Poston.

When it comes to buying vs. renting, they suggest renting items you’re going to use for six months or less.

A good example is a bassinet, that is something a baby is going to sleep in for three maybe four months then you want it out of your house,” said Poston.
