Leather jackets are on par with straight-leg jeans and white button downs as wardrobe staples, no matter your style. As we shed our shearling-lined leather jackets for lightweight toppers this spring, one leather jacket has our editors’ full attention: Quince’s Leather Cropped Jacket.

More from WWD

You may know the brand for its range of gorgeous Quince handbags or its $50 cashmere sweater, but this cropped jacket is a secret hit. On TikTok, searches for Quince leather jacket reviews have surpassed 7 million views, and the Birch colorway of the jacket is a bestseller, often sold out in select sizes.

Priced at just $169.90, it’s hard to believe that this jacket is done in 100 percent, buttery-soft top-grain leather — according to the brand, styles crafted with similar materials would run you over $400. That’s because Quince sources luxury essentials with low design costs, also utilizing a “factory direct model” that sidelines traditional supply chain structures to reduce your bottom line. And unlike traditional fast fashion brands, Quince upholds ethical production standards as well as sustainable production where possible. Quince’s leather goods are made in tanneries certified by the Leather Working Group, often crafted out of premium goat, sheep, and cow leather (the 100 percent Leather Cropped Jacket is done in sheep leather).

Affordability isn’t the only selling point to Quince’s leather jacket — there’s also the stunning design. It’s cut in a boxy, cropped silhouette with front pocket details that make it read more like an over shirt or ‘shacket’ than a true leather jacket you’d reserve only for nights out.

Our editors have been wearing Quince’s leather jacket for the past month to get a feel for its quality, styling versatility, and durability. Read on for our full testing review.

Quince Leather Jacket Review — Editor Testing Notes

I’ll be honest — seeing a sub-$200 price tag on a genuine leather jacket had me scratching my head, thinking, “surely there’s a catch.” The only catch to report? When I took the jacket out of its packaging, I noticed some small, shallow wrinkles on the leather (which is hardly a con, considering most goods that have been folded, packaged up, and shipped across the country will incur some level of wrinkling).

Much to my surprise, the leather was fragrant when I took the jacket out of its packaging, smelling like the genuine top-grain leather it’s made of rather than a funky plastic scent I’ve picked up from vegan leather jackets I’ve ordered. I carefully hung the jacket overnight and wore it the next day. By the time I took it off after a long day at the office, each of the wrinkles had fully softened and smoothed out.

As for the style of this leather jacket, it fits perfectly in my simple, tonal wardrobe that’s full of neutral knits and vintage denim. I tend to veer towards clothing that feels more timeless than trendy, and I love that Quince’s leather jacket has a classic silhouette with just a touch of flare, courtesy of its cropped length. And about that cut: Although it’s oversized, you’ll find that the combination of the drop shoulders and the waist-skimming length create a flattering, slimming silhouette. The lack of shiny hardware makes it feel more daytime than other leather jackets I own, however it feels right at home with a pair of trousers and a strappy tank for a night out.

For the value, Quince’s Leather Cropped Jacket is absolutely worth the spend. With moderate warmth that doesn’t feel suffocating and leather that just gets softer with every wear, I suspect it’ll become a year-round hero in my capsule wardrobe.
