Did the 2015 Grammys Just Win for the Most Outfit Changes Ever?

New York Times fashion critic Vanessa Friedman tweeted, “Kudos to Beck for wearing the same Grammys outfit all night, on stage and off. Way to set a new trend.” She’s right—there were more outfit changes than ever at Sunday night’s awards show. Madonna changed from one custom-made Givenchy matador outfit into another. Pharrell went from an athletic shorts suit to a Grand Budapest Hotel-like bellman outfit. And Rihanna changed out of her larger-than-life pink Giambattista Valli couture gown to an ultra-boyish oversized suit by Galliano for Margiela. And because the award show happened as quickly as the stars’ outfit changes, here’s a GIF recap of the most notable red carpet to onstage looks.

Ariana Grande’s “Just a Little Bit of Your Heart” performance was sultry yet sweet.
Grande started off sexy, in her white Versace number alongside Big Sean, and then opted for a romantic purple gown and sparkly long earrings to sing her ballad.

Madonna got horny onstage in her “Living for Love” performance.
She went from one sexy matador to another. As in her new video, a slew of rhinestone-faced bulls joined Madge during her performance, one of the most energetic of the night.

Katy Perry looked like God while singing “By the Grace of God” in white.
She changed from head to toe—literally. Perry walked the red carpet with purple hair, wearing a chandelier-like Zuhair Murad dress. Onstage, she wore a white-caped number by Versace (it bore an uncanny resemblance to Solange Knowles’s wedding dress) and a slicked-back black ponytail.

If only North could have seen Kanye West’s “Only One” performance.
Kanye went from formal to athleisure, opting for a burgundy velvet tracksuit and his new Adidas kicks to perform his latest single.

How “Happy” were you with Pharrell’s performance?
The folks from Save the Planet must be “happy” because Pharrell recycled everything, from his song to his outfit.

Tony Bennett and Lady Gaga sang “Cheek to Cheek” while face-to-face.
The two new (but old) best friends won for most sophisticated onstage; Gaga opted for a black sparkly gown embellished with feathers in place of her superrevealing silver red carpet dress.

Gwen Stefani sang “My Heart Is Open” with The Voice co-star Adam Levine.
What’s black and white and red all over? Stefani’s two outfits at the 2015 Grammys.

Sam Smith sang “Stay With Me” alongside Mary J. Blige.
This year’s boy went from a classic black and white Gucci suit to a navy blue checkered one, joining the other men in cobalt.

Maddie Ziegler performed with Sia (and Kristen Wiig) for “Chandelier.”
It looks like the 12-year-old Dance Moms star flat-ironed her wig right before she hit the stage.

image

Hozier and Annie took the audience to “Church.”
Hozier let his hair down, while Lennox, though still in black, threw on a glitzy blazer and pants.

Rihanna, Kanye, and Paul McCartney’s “Four Five Seconds” was a crowd favorite.
The men might not have made a dramatic wardrobe change, but Rihanna went from an uber girly, powder-puff, pink princess Giambattista Valli dress to an oversized suit.

Beyoncé was angelic for her “Take My Hand, Precious Lord” song.
The singer arrived in a custom black dress by Proenza Schouler and closed out the show in an ethereal white gown and cape; her tousled long locks remained the same.

Miranda Lambert sang “Little Red Wagon” in leather.
Is Lambert a country singer or the new queen of rock ‘n’ roll?
