Danville’s Custard Cup opens for 75th year of operation

DANVILLE. Ill. (WCIA) — A Danville staple is open for the summer and celebrating a milestone year of its operation.

2024 is the 75th year of The Custard Cup in Danville, and its first under the ownership of Andrew Seibert. After more than 50 years under the Jarling family, the business went up for auction last fall.

On Friday, Seibert kicked off his ownership of the ice cream shop with a ribbon-cutting ceremony that was attended by members of the community and Mayor Rickey Williams.

$5M expansion coming to Rantoul elementary school

This year, The Custard Cup is unveiling a new orange flavor and is also giving back to the community with its “Scoops of Love” program. With every order, staff will ask customers if they would like to donate a dollar to a designated nonprofit partner which will change with every month. At the end of the month, The Custard Cup will match the total donations up to $1,000 and donate all of that money to the designated nonprofit.

This year’s nonprofits will include Danville Youth HockeyCASA of Vermilion and Edgar CountiesThe Dwelling Place of Vermilion CountyHumane Society of Danville, Illinois and Crosspoint Human Services.

The Custard Cup will be open this summer from noon to 9 p.m. Sunday through Thursday and from noon to 10 p.m. on Thursdays and Fridays.
