Dairy Cow Gets Her First Taste of Freedom at Sanctuary in Moving Video

Dairy cows are often rescued by animal sanctuaries when they are no longer deemed profitable or are in need of care due to health issues or mistreatment.

The staff of the sanctuary @uncleneilshome recently rescued a dairy cow named Margaret, which they shared in this video posted on November 28, and it's so heartfelt. Let's see for yourself!

Aw, look at her!

Margaret has finally retired from the dairy industry after 17 long and brutal years of being a dairy cow and can now enjoy life to the fullest, as she deserves.

The dairy industry typically involves the continuous cycle of impregnating cows to keep them lactating and separating them from their calves shortly after birth. This process can lead to physical and emotional stress for the cows.

Animal sanctuaries provide a refuge for these animals, offering them a chance to live out their lives in a more natural and compassionate environment.

After the long transport and stressful, as well as traumatizing, years at a dairy farm, Margaret had to first take a nap while sunbathing.

According to the staff, Margaret is a gentle and curious soul like most cows and certainly enjoys having her own room, fresh hay and grass, and nightly massages.

Many rescued dairy cows come from large-scale factory farms, where they may face overcrowded and unsanitary conditions. These environments can lead to health issues, and once a cow's productivity declines, they may be considered expendable in the industry.

Once Margaret's vet bill comes back clean, she can join another rescue named Helen, who's only two years apart, and they can become besties. As we know, cows are very social and love company.
